HPMCHydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is a commonly used water-soluble cellulose ether additive in latex paints for decorative materials. It is mainly used as a thickener, water retaining agent, film-forming agent, and rheological modifier, which can significantly improve the workability, stability, and film-forming quality of latex paints.

1、 Core role

Thickening and rheological regulation

Improve system viscosity, prevent pigment and filler from settling and layering, and enhance storage stability.

Provide pseudo plastic fluid characteristics: high viscosity at rest, viscosity decreases during shear (brush coating, roller coating, spray coating), which is beneficial for construction; Quickly restore viscosity and prevent sagging after stopping shearing.

Slow down the rate of moisture evaporation, ensure the full film formation of lotion, and avoid pulverization, cracking, curling and peeling due to rapid water loss.

Film quality: reduce cracking, powdering, peeling, and improve density.

Flattening: Improve surface smoothness and reduce orange peel.

Adhesion: Improve the wetting and bonding of the wall surface.

PH stability: Maintain stable performance in alkaline wall environments.

3、 Usage precautions

The usual dosage is 0.2% -0.8% of the total mass. Excessive dosage can lead to high viscosity, sticky construction, and slower drying.

Different viscosity specifications correspond to different functions:

Low viscosity: focusing on leveling and film formation.

Medium to high viscosity: focusing on thickening, water retention, and anti sagging.

It is recommended to disperse in cold water to fully swell, and then mix with lotion to avoid agglomeration.
